Quincy Memorial Bridge Project

What is this Study?

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is conducting a Phase I (planning) study for the improvement of US Route 24 Bridge (Quincy Memorial Bridge) over the Mississippi River at Quincy. IDOT is seeking comments on the effects that the improvement may have on Edgewater Park. The general scope of work for this improvement consists of removal and replacement of the existing Quincy Memorial Bridge, including reconstruction of the approximately 2,000 feet of eastbound US Route 24 on the west side in Missouri and 1,500 feet on the east side in Illinois to connect the new bridge to the existing roadway system, for a total project length of 1.3 miles.

Edgewater Park is a 1.6-acre linear park located on the east bank of the Mississippi River at Front and York Streets south of the existing Quincy Memorial Bridge. The proposed new Quincy Bridge alignment passes over the very southern edge of Edgewater Park. There are no recreational facilities where the bridge would pass over the park, and the bridge piers are proposed to be located on the riverbank and across Front Street to avoid any disturbance to the existing park entrance, parking area or park amenities.

IDOT is providing an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the potential effects of the project on the activities, features, and attributes that qualify Edgewater Park for protection under Section 4(f). Information on the proposed improvements associated with the project can be found below.
